Siding, trim, soffits, fascia, shutters, doors and porches — prepped for South Carolina weather rather than for the photograph.
Humidity, hard afternoon sun on the south and west elevations, and pollen for several weeks each spring. Paint fails here from the substrate outward — through chalked siding, unsealed end grain and failed caulk joints — long before the colour gives up.
Wash and let it dry properly. Scrape and sand failing areas back to sound edges. Re-caulk the joints that have opened. Spot-prime bare wood and every stain that would otherwise bleed through. Only then does colour go on.
Late spring through early autumn is the window, avoiding the days when humidity or overnight temperatures stop the film from curing. We would rather move a day than put a coat on that will not cure — it costs a day now instead of the finish later.
